Richard's uncle:That boy lives to play ball. Comes to school every day now. You take away basketball. God knows what he'd be into. Yesterday, you canceled the Fremont game. Now, that's the biggest game of the year. I have scouts(球探) coming to watch my boy play. These boys are 16-0. This whole school, this whole community, is behind this team.  Everybody goes to evey game. Basketball is the only thing that teses boys have got. Now, are we gonna let Carter come in here and take that away from them? I don't think so. I'd like to make a motion.(提議) we remove Mr. Carter as head basketball coach.
Chairman:This board does not bave the authority to terminate employment of a staff position.這個委員會對教職人員沒有兔其職位的權利。
Richard' s uncle:Then I move we end the lockout(取消禁賽) and let the kids play.
Carter:I second the motion. If I may?
Chairmain:Yes, Mr. Carter.
Carter:You need to consider the message that you're sending these boys. It's the same message that we as a culture send to our pro athletes(運動員) which is that they are above the law.(凌駕法律之上)  Now, I'm trying to teach these boys the discipline(規則)that will inform their lives and give them choices. If you endorse(背書、贊同) the fact that 15,16,and 17-year-olds don't have to honer the simple rules of a basketball contract(合約) how long do you think it' ll be before they're out there breaking laws? Now, I played badketball at Michmond 30 years ago. It was the same thing then. Some of my teammates ended up in prison. Some of them ended up dead. I took this job because I wanted to effect change in a special group of young men, and this is the only way I know how to do that. If you vote to end the lockout,  you won't have to terminate me. I'll quit.
Chairman:The board now recognizes five voting members. In this instance, we will be accepting the vote of Principal Garrison as well. Now, I put to those members the vote on whether or not  to end the lockout. All those in favor of ending the lockout will raise their right hand when called upon.(唱名) I will vote frist by not raising my hand. Principle Garrison?... The lockout ends with a vote of 4-to-2. If there's no other business, this board meeting is adjourned.(休會、使中止) Thank you all for coming.
President:Mr.  Carter, are you sure you wanna do this?  Look, I know we haven't always seen eye to eye(意見從來就不相同 ) but you've done such a great job with these boys. It seems wrong to just--
Carter:Look. No effense, ma'am. All the work I did with those boys  was negated(否定、取消) when they ended the lockout. The board sent the message loud and clear. Winning basketball games is more important
than graduating from high school and going to college. I ' m sorry.  I just can't support  that message.
Basketball player:Sir, they can cut the chain off the door, but they can't make us play.他們可以拿走體育館門上鎖住的鐵條,但他們不能逼我們打球。 we've decided we're gonna finish what you started, sir. Yeah, so leave us be, Coach. We got shit to do, sir.
Carter:What is your deepest fear?
Andy:Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate(for the job.)(不適當的、不夠格的、不能勝任的) Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not  our darkness that most frightens us.  Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were all meant to shine, as children do. It  is not just in some of us, it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others....Sir, I just want to say thank you. You saved my life.
Carter:Thank you, sirs. All of you.
